Mystras is a Byzantine fortified city with a castle located in the area of Laconia of the Peloponnese on Mount Taygetos, near ancient Sparta, Mystras was the capital of the Byzantine Despotate of Mystras in the 14th and 15th centuries at a time of prosperity and cultural flourishing for that time. Today, in the ruins of the fortress itself can be seen at the top of myzithra hill. Scattered along its side, it is a series of churches and other buildings that make up the city. Our excursion starts from Kalamata with the wonderful route through Taygetos passing through the picturesque villages of Alagonia and Artemisia. Arriving in Mystras the time of the visit is usually 2 hours. The options we have afterwards are a walk in the city of Sparta for photos on the statue of the King of Sparta Leonidas.
